The story
A grieving man has organized the final night of his life. The schedule offers a way to make what he is about to do seem manageable, orderly and private. Then he is unexpectedly left with a tiny dog whose needs do not respect his plan.
Repeated acts of animal care interrupt the night. Each demand is small, but together they keep disrupting the isolation and control on which his schedule depends. The comedy comes from behavior and the practical inconvenience of another living creature, rather than from treating his despair as a joke. The dog cannot understand the plan and does not provide a magical cure. The interruptions instead force another human connection and a concrete safety plan into an evening designed to exclude them. The possibility of another choice emerges through the work of caring for something that is still there.
