LOSING MY EDGE

Before LCD Soundsystem became the coolest band in the room, James Murphy spent years convinced the room had already moved on without him.

New York, 1999–2002. DFA, aging, envy, taste, failure, the Strokes, the Moldy Peaches, Interpol, Karen O, the Rapture, Radio 4, 9/11, and the long runway toward “Losing My Edge.”

This is an unauthorized dramatic writing sample. No authorization, participation, life rights or endorsement from James Murphy, LCD Soundsystem, DFA Records or related parties is implied.

This is not fundamentally a rock-star biopic. It is a movie about creative lateness: a man with extraordinary taste and enough intelligence to recognize what is happening around him, which mostly gives him more ways to explain why he missed his moment.

The destination is not celebrity or Madison Square Garden. It is the moment insecurity becomes material — when envy, humiliation, taste, age and failure finally become the thing itself.

FORM

Flyers. Xeroxes. Cheap rehearsal spaces. Clubs. Cabs. Records. Bad apartments. Flash photography and early digital video. It should feel made from the same downtown materials as the culture, not like glossy music-biopic reconstruction.
