STILL CLUELESS

Cher Horowitz tries not to interfere in her teenage daughter's school election while stumbling into an increasingly messy Senate campaign—and finds that twenty-first-century matchmaking is still her most dangerous hobby.
The story
Cher Horowitz wants to support her teenage daughter without taking over her life. Lola’s school election should be a leadership story that belongs to Lola. Cher’s promise not to interfere becomes harder to keep as family concerns, friendships and romances give her more opportunities to improve everybody else’s arrangements.
An increasingly messy Senate campaign expands the field of possible mistakes. A fight over school transportation connects the younger generation’s ambitions to the political world Cher is stumbling into, while her old instinct for matchmaking continues to complicate both. Good intentions cannot make her reading of other people infallible. The comedy depends on her ability to be wrong in her own distinctive voice, and on Lola’s right to act beyond her mother’s plan. This unauthorized sequel sample gives a familiar character a new problem: recognizing where helping ends and control begins.
